Overseas Player Announcement

Uphill Castle Cricket Club are delighted to announce the signing of Finn Churchward for the 2023 Season. The UK passport holding Aussie is a top order batsman who can also bowl off spin, currently studying at the University of Queensland. Finn’s parents were born in England and he is taking a year away from his degree to focus on his cricketing development.

Playing for the University of Queensland in premier cricket, Finn already has a top score of 101* this season. He has made quite an impression in Australia, making his A grade debut at just 15 for his hometown club Cairns Rovers. Finn has also represented Queensland Country in the U19 National Championships.

“Everyone at Uphill Castle is thrilled to have Finn on board for the 2023 season. He is a high quality player who will provide stability at the top of the order. Finn has a bright future in the game, and we excited to be a platform for his Development.” Said club captain Paddy Holyday. “We have a great history of hosting brilliant overseas players, and I’m sure Finn will be the latest addition to the Uphill Castle family around the world. Finn also has the added benefit of holding a Cricket Australia accredited Level 1 qualification, allowing Finn to help develop our junior players throughout the season.

His expertise and presence will be a brilliant addition to our junior programme, providing young players with a great role model to aspire towards. “I am really looking forward to this new and exciting opportunity playing cricket in England. I can’t wait to get around the lads and to experience a new environment in Uphill. I am excited to continue developing as a cricketer and put my best foot forward for the team throughout the season.” Added Finn.

Finn will join up with the squad in April, after completing his season in Australia and taking the opportunity to visit family in the UK. Uphill Castle would like to thank Glenn Coyle from Cricket Exchange for his support.
