Cricketing Advisor
Uphill Castle are thrilled to announce the return of one its greatest players, Gareth Williams, who has agreed to become Cricketing Advisor for the upcoming 2023 season.Following last years relegations for the 1st and 2nd XI, the committee held an internal review of all cricketing aspects of the club. Many points were raised and the committee feel that cricket should be at the forefront of all ambitions. Predominately, getting the club back to where it belongs, the West of England Premier League. After lengthy discussions with Gareth he has accepted the role of Cricketing Advisor. This role will see him support the captains and committee with regards to matters on the pitch. He will offer a new perpective and help the club push towards its new goals.Gareth who is known as ‘GOD’ at The Castle, has led the club on 4 occasions over long and run loaded career. He was involved in the glory years of the mid 90’s, and regarded by many as the clubs greatest batsman. His support and guidance will be invaluable.
Chair of selectors
We are also delighted to announce Mark Patch as Chair of selectors for the 2023. Again after the internal review, the committee recognises that selection needs to be addressed. ‘Patchy’ will again be the voice of reason between the captains. Mark has been involved with The Castle longer than most and understands the challenges with selection. He also has an up to date knowledge on current players at the club and where they may be best suited.Selection is a difficult job at the best of times, but it is hoped with the players signing up to the Teamo app it will help no end. Commitment is key for us to achieve the clubs goals !!!We are looking forward to an exciting season, with more cricket than ever being player at The Castle.
