Uphill Castle Cricket Club have been working with the Super 1s programme, which gives young people aged 12-25 with disabilities the chance to regularly play cricket.

The Somerset Cricket Board have created community cricket hubs across the county for young people to receive coaching.

The programme also gives participants the chance to compete against peers at Super 1 cricket festivals and enjoy the benefits that team sports provide as well as lead an active lifestyle.

It also provides young people with a chance to realise their potential, both on and off the pitch, and enables them to discover what they can do, not what they can’t, and become role models.

In 2020 the North Somerset Super 1 hub, now known as the North Somerset Hounders, took place at Uphill Castle.

Somerset Cricket Boards’ Super 1 Co-ordinator Steve Gass said: “Without Uphill Castle’s support, the session would have struggled to take place. With the restrictions placed on indoor cricket, the Hounders needed a safe and secure environment to run weekly sessions. Luckily Uphill Castle stepped forward and supported our Super 1 programme and have been brilliant advocates and supporters ever since.”

Somerset Cricket Board are hopeful that the programme can return to Uphill Castle when the restrictions are lifted and cricket is again played this Spring and Summer.
