A day of misfortune for the Castle was foreshadowed by George Fox, opening bowler, collapsing to the floor after just the third delivery of the game. The opening bowler injured his knee and meant Uphill had to proceed with the game a crucial bowler light and for a significant portion of the first innings a fielder down also. Butleigh’s opening stand of 120 was scored quickly and put the visitors in control of the game.

Jacob Potts starred for Butleigh scoring an impressive 102., this was complimented in the latter stages of the innings by a classy 64 by Jack Tucker. Batting through their full allocation of overs Butleigh set a total of 263-5, a score not previously succumbed to the Uphill bowling attack, it was to be a tough task.

In reply, the Castle lost Paddy Holyday and Jermaine Jones early. In fact, it was only George Cox who could provide any form of significant defence to the Butleigh bowling attack, the middle order batsmen scored an excellent 67 before being run out.

With a lack of support however, Cox was unable to really trouble Butleigh’s 263. Wickets fell continuously through the Castle’s reply, before they were eventually dismissed for 163, seeing the home side disappointingly lose by 100 runs.
